Meet The Editor: Michelle Queen

Where to start? From as long as I can remember, which is about three years old, I have had a love for details, luxe and glamour. I have always been drawn to stylish living, in all aspects of life...yeah, I am a little different in that way, loving high-end fashion, designer bags, and of course anything that sparkles. I come from the small town of Kenora Ontario. Although I love my little town, historically, it has not been a source of fashionably chic items. This is something I am happy to say has improved a great deal.  I have been very fortunate in that my parents have always supported my sense of style and my pursuit of all things fashionable. At a very young age they took me to New York City to explore my passion. They also allowed me to do my co-op at a Modeling Agency, in Winnipeg, Manitoba (2.5 hours from our home). It was a great way to get a behind the scenes look at the fashion industry. Even though it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for it provided an invaluable foundation that still serves me to this day.

I have been blessed with a rich heritage.  My father has mixed European roots and my mother is Mexican.  My parents wanted me to experience more of my Mexican roots and at 18 they sent me to Mexico for four months where I lived with my grandparents.  It was a wonderful time.  Mexicans have a very fashionable culture and are a very spiritual people.  It affected me deeply and I will always treasure my time in Mexico.  I returned to Canada to continue my education in fashion and my passion for details and luxe living only grew from there.  I worked in the industry for a few years then returned to university taking business and psychology.  Why would I do that, you may be asking?  I was in my dream job but something within was still missing.  So I returned to school to determine whether or not I was on the right path. After a six month trip to Europe, my path led me to a career in the health field, which fulfilled part of what was missing, but I was still not content as I had turned my back on my first love, fashion.  Still feeling a bit lost, I enrolled in a Masters program with an indigenous holistic focus.  The climax of this program was a one week solo experience in the wilderness.  You might say it was a form of vision quest, which, had a profound effect on me both spiritually and intellectually.  My “Aha” moment was that fashion, glamour and glitz was as much a part of me as my spirituality and my desire to help others. That is actually how the idea of “Inspired Ego” was brought to life. I finally came to see that I am a spiritual being who has a knack for style, a love for luxury and a big heart for people and the teachings they, and this big beautiful life, bring.
